I. Background and Purpose
In order to develop transport capability in Vietnam and Vietnam - ROK intergovernmental cooperation in transport sector, the University of Transport and Communications (UTC) and the Korea Transport Institute (KOTI) established the Vietnam-Korea Transport Infrastructure Cooperation Center (VKTrans) on March 22nd, 2018, during President Moon’s State visit to Vietnam.
- Under the MOU between Ministry of Transport of Vietnam and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea: Development of joint project or program for transport infrastructure and technology, establishment of committee for road and infrastructure cooperation, implementation of technical assistance, experts exchange and academic conference, etc.
VKTrans aims to implement joint researches (ODA projects, research projects for transport development in Vietnam, etc.) with transport research institutes in Korea (KRRI, KRIHS, KICT, etc.)
- Strategies for national development planning connected to Northsouth highway (KRIHS)
- Survey and Analysis on Warm-Mix Asphalt Technology Applied to Vietnam’s Roads (KICT)
- Analysis of Railway Safety and Railway Policy of Vietnam (KRRI)
Given consolidation of sustainable cooperation and synergy effect between Vietnam and Korea, strategic approach is required to maximize role and capacity of VKTrans.
- ast October, the 1st council meeting of VKTrans was held in Vietnam attended by Dr. Jaehak OH, the president of KOTI and Dr. Long, the rector of UTC in order to discuss establishment of operation regulations, financial support, research implementation, etc
In order to settle operation regulations of VKTrans, KOTI aims to invite Vietnamese stakeholders from MOT and UTC and hold a joint workshop including the 2nd Council meeting with Korean council members.
